Volunteers Who are Dedicated to the Community

In 1944 a group of dedicated pioneers gathered to form the Taghkanic Volunteer Fire Company. Today the legacy lives on as a new group of visionaries, highly trained in firematics & rescue techniques, continue to provide around the clock fire protection for areas of Taghkanic and Gallatin, New York.

Taghkanic Volunteer Fire Company is located in the town of Taghkanic, an agricultural community situated midway between Albany and Poughkeepsie in New York State's Hudson Valley. The area is quiet, with beautiful picturesque landscapes of forests, rolling hills, and open fields.

Aside from fighting fires volunteers are also trained in accident victim extracation, search & rescue, hazardous materials awareness, and wildland fire supression. In their spare time volunteers assist with community based events, such as local cubscout fundraisers and parades.

There are 23 members, all on a volunteer status. Two stations are strategically placed for a fast response anywhere in the 25 square mile protective district. Station 1, is located in West Taghkanic and is the focal point of all operations. This station provides fast response to the townships of Gallatin, West Taghkanic, and the corridor of the Taconic State Parkway that the fire company covers. Station 2 is located in East Taghkanic and provides fast response for the hamlet of East Taghkanic, and mutual aid requests from eastern neighborhoods.
